Our History
One day, I answered the phone and heard “Wendy, this is Dave Braxton. I know you are going to want to rent this space on Lancaster Avenue in Wayne.”
I hadn’t spoken to Dave for over 6 months, and I was surprised that he was calling me.
“Hi Dave”, I responded. “Thanks, but I already have a nice office at home, and I’m not in the market. I’m curious, though, where is this office?”
“It’s on the corner of Sugartown and Lancaster Ave”
“Do you mean the old 2 story stone building with the green shutters?” I asked, beginning to get excited. Everyone who has ever driven on Route 30 (aka Lancaster Ave.) knows about this building. For over 25 years I’ve driven by this beautiful old stone building which sits close to the road, curious about what it looked like inside.
This building is on a very busy corner and every time I drove by I admired the mossy and soft grey colors of the old stones. I knew the building was about 200 years old and due to it’s proximity to the road, thought that it might have been an early tavern. Lancaster Avenue is a very old road and originally was the only way to get from Philadelphia to Lancaster, PA. This building is about 14 miles from Philadelphia, and I imagined that it might have been a day’s ride on a carriage driven by horses.
“Yes. Why don’t you come and take a look at it?” Dave replied.
I rushed out and was knocking at the door within 5 minutes. Well, I thought to myself, I don’t need to rent an office, but I’m excited see what it looks like.
Dave opened the door and I stepped inside. Oh my. It is beautiful, I said to myself. As he showed me the largest room, I marveled at the beautiful old windows with deep sills.
We walked through the rest of the 2nd floor and I looked down at the thick wooden floor. “Original?” I asked. “Yes”, and the fireplaces are too, Dave said.
As I walked with Dave through the building I began to have thoughts about renting the space. Images of comfortable furniture and antique rugs rushed through my head. My mind was swirling with thoughts of seeing clients and holding great workshops here. I was so excited I don’t think my feet touched the antique wooden floors.
Within a month the space was filled with furniture and books and Dave Braxton and I had formed The Center of Success, LLC.
This journey has just begun!
